The expression "organic", which has been used very widely recently, especially in the food sector; It means certified and controlled agricultural production from production to consumption without the use of chemicals.

The aim of organic agriculture is to protect the health of humans and all other living things without harming the nature. No pure and unnatural substances are used in organic agriculture, the continuity of agriculture is ensured, and the interests of employees are protected. Therefore, it is not only a mode of production, but also a way of life. Since no foreign substances are used in the production of organic products, they do not disturb the balance of the body when consumed.

On June 24, 1991, the regulation numbered 2092/11 came into force in order to regulate and supervise organic agriculture among the European Union countries. “Organic Agriculture Law” was published in Turkey on 03.12.2004 in order to comply with the organic agriculture legislation in the European Union.

Organic product certificate

In order to obtain the organic product certificate, the certification bodies assigned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs according to the European Union standards and rules must certify the places where organic farming is practiced.

To obtain the certificate:

• Inspection and certification of the field

• Training and certification of the farmer by inspection

• Certification of the seed by inspection

• Auditing and certification of natural fertilizers

• Inspection and certification of natural pesticides

• Certification of the grown product by inspection

• Certification of the product processor by inspection

• The person who packs and markets the product must be audited and certified.

Organic agricultural products are sold at more expensive prices, since the fee of the certificates is paid in each production period. In addition, the increase in labor costs due to the use of natural seeds and natural fertilizers, the use of tractors and agricultural vehicles causes the prices of organic products to be high. Businesses that produce organic products are generally small businesses today. Therefore, unit costs are high.

Another important issue to be considered is the question marks that arise in the minds of consumers about whether the products sold under the phrase "natural" and "village" are organic products. The word natural and village does not meet the word organic. Producers producing organic products receive certificates for each product they produce and enter into inspection. For example, organic chickens have everything under control, from what they eat to where they roam. It is not possible to say this for backyard chickens. We don't know what the bait is or where they roam and eat.

Stay healthy.
